Dear, Mr. Jay W. Simon

I intend on applying for employment at various venues within the next few weeks. I would be eternally grateful if you could indulge me with a letter affirming me as the right man for any open position. If you will, A general recommendation would be excellent for this purpose.

Before I ship to Basic in November I intend to gain employment. I believe that, as one who I have spent a considerable amount of time working with, you would be an excellent reference for any potential employer.

I hope that this request is not without warrant. In our time together I have demonstrated that I am a hard worker. I can think critically, rationally, and most importantly, I can think quickly. I have excellent work ethic. I am reliable as a leader, yet capable as a subordinate.

My bITS experience

This is my second year as an intern in the bITS summer program, and much like last year I am enjoying my time with my group. Our group, New Kids on the Mock, is preparing for a Mock Trial demonstration at the end of the program. It's going to be a sort of courtroom show with members of the group playing different parts. So far, we've done so much it's hard to try to remember it all, but in the big case I'm a lawyer on the side of the defense.

My group has it's own blog that we all share. Visit us here: New Kids on the Mock.

Capers in a nutshell

As a child, I was always told what I would not and could not be in life. I want to prove that no matter where one comes from, he or she determines how far they go in life. I have cultivated many valuable skills within myself like computer literacy, leadership, a passion for public speaking, and impeccable work ethic. My goal is to become a Four Star General in the United States Marine Corps.

What exactly IS a SMART Goal?

During my stay with the bITS program this summer, I was introduced to the concept of a SMART goal. Of course, SMART is a clever mnemonic device for the process of choosing a smart goal, IE a goal is the following:

The S in SMART stands for Specific. When choosing a goal one must be know exactly what form they want their goal to take, in other words, "A man without a destination can not get there." Say, for example, your goal is money oriented. One might say "I want to rich!" this goal isn't specific. A specific goal would be "I want to have $1,000,000 in my savings account."

The M in SMART stands for Measurable. A goal is measurable if, when considered it can be laid out before others and recognized uniformly. A goal of "being rich" fails here as well, because one person's rich varies from another persons rich. Our goals must be measurable, because if they are not then one can't possibly determine whether they've achieved that goal or not.

The A in SMART stands for Action. Action, as in what action must be taken to achieve the goal. Without action, a goal is simply a dream. One needs to take action, because without action there is no progress.

The R in SMART stands for Realistic. A goal is realistic if it has a good possibility of happening. Without realism, a goal is only a wish.

Finally, the T in SMART stands for Time. Time is important, because one needs to set a boundary for when they want their goal to materialize. Without a grasp on time one could be trying to accomplish one forever!

Everyone has some sort of goals in mind, both short term and long term.

One of my short term goals, because I'm shipping to bootcamp on November 15th, is to be able to do 30 pull-ups before I go. I am fairly close with a steady 23 and considering how far I've come from my original 11, I think I will reach my goal in no time! I am motivated and dedicated to my accomplishing my goal.

One of my long term goals is to own at least one home by the time that I am 30 years old. I have always been partial to self sufficiency and, to me, nothing says that more than owning your own place.

Thank You, Good Sir.

Dear Mr. Imployer,

I would like to sincerely thank you for giving me the opportunity to showcase my skills and capabilities at our most recent interview. As you know, I have been interested in joining the ranks of SmashPOW Inc. for quite some time now. I had been looking forward to the day I would be called back for a follow up interview, and now my anticipation grows even more as I await further correspondence with you. I would like nothing more than to be engaged as a Public Speaker for SmashPOW Inc. I am enthusiastic, charismatic, dedicated to service. I honestly believe I would be a perfect fit for the job. I enjoy talking to people quite a bit, and, given the need, I can be out and about for SmasPOW Inc. at a moment's notice.

I would not only be a great fit for the position, but I would also be a great fit for the company. In our interview I discovered I hold many of the core values expressed by SmashPOW Inc. as a whole within myself: I have a passion for outstanding work, I am truly a people person, I am team friendly- yet not team reliant, I am a stickler for cleanliness, and most importantly I love to communicate and learn with others. I must say, also, that my career in the United States Marine Corps has prepared me thoroughly to face any challenges before me. I can think critically, rationally, and most importantly, I can think quickly. Therefore, I humbly ask that you not consider me as a possible asset, but as a definite factor for exponential growth within your company.

Once again, I thank you for your time and consideration, and hope to hear from you soon.
